Hittin' the road

Well, I'm in Houston for the night with the family (I saw 2 squashed armadillos on the drive from Austin to Houston, I'm sure I'll see like a million driving towards NM). I still can't believe my Dad has entrusted me with his new car for the trip. There is only so much my little POS civic can do. The adventure begins tomorrow. Let me break down the agenda for the trip real quick-like.

  • Picking up Kyle @ IAH and driving thru the night to Taos, NM
  • Explore Taos, etc.
  • Great Sand Dunes NP in Colorado
  • Pick up Eric in FoCo, drink many microbrews
  • Adventure in the San Juans
  • Pick up Geoff in Denver
  • Maroon Bells
  • Utah
  • Vegas?
  • Back to the ATX
I'm ready to roll. Gonna take lots of pictures. Should send a few to the blog from my phone, check back. Also, I'm going to attempt to continue my streak of not shaving. I will try to resist the temptation, even as I begin to look filthier and filthier and my face itches like crazy.

That's it, be back in 3 weeks.

Easy Like Sunday Mornings...

What a great day. I heard from the last two people I would ever expect to hear from. Perhaps I'll elaborate later. Needless to say, I was feeling pretty good about that, then my parents go and surprise me with a bunch of slide film and a new tripod for my trip. I gotta say, they pretty much rule.

I'm leaving for my trip tomorrow, so I got a bunch of loose ends to tie up before I head out for 3 weeks. Doing laundry, paying bills, all that shit, gotta run to REI.

I think this could be it for a while, but I'm gonna be sending pictures to my blog from the road. Keep checking if you want know the progress of our adventure. I got that wonderlust bad. Well, can't wait to get on the road, can't wait to show my friends Austin, can't wait for Rebecca and Jon to come down to Tejas.

I got to ramble...

T-Minus 5 Days

My pile of junk is, well, piling up on the floor. I'm getting the goods assembled for the odyssey. Things are moving along rather well. I'm so ready to go.

Went out last night for Jenilee's Birthday. I met up with her and some of her coworkers at Shady Grove to see Bob Schneider and Texas Bluegrass Massacre. It was the shit, a little crowded, but the show rocked. We went to Doc's afterwards. They have some dank food there. We feasted on fried 'shrooms and queso dip. Every place in this town has such good food and drink. I love it.

I've got a busy agenda for the rest of today. By busy, I mean I'm going to go swimming then get some drinks at Boulevard. Better get to it.

Boating on Lake's good to have friends with boats, what an excellent weekend

Well, it's been a while. I'm surprisingly busy doing nothing. I'm heading to Houston on Wednesday to pick Kyle up for our adventure. I'm so excited for this trip. Roadtrippin with three of my best friends for three weeks is going to be ridiculous. What an adventure. I think the best part about the whole thing is our nearly complete lack of planning. The trips you plan on the fly usually are the most fun...if you don't kill eachother, but I'm sure that won't be a problem for us.

Driving 20 straight hours from Houston to FC with Kyle should be a good time. I think we may make a little stop at Philmont and sneak up the Tooth of Time and watch the sun rise. It's probably considered trespassing, but we'll figure something out. I just can't wait to get on the road again.

With so much time on my hands, I've been thinking a lot about the future, mainly school. I'm genuinely excited for classes to start, but I don't know if I have the patience to stay in it for a PhD. That's going to take soooooo much time. There's a lot of things I want to do other than school, but they always seem to fall by the wayside. I probably could be done with an MS by next Christmas. That would leave me sitting pretty well to go somewhere and ski for the winter. Hmmm...

Well, I just heard Worm got into med school at NEOUCOM. This is great news. I know he kinda shafted himself in his first year of undergrad, so I'm glad to see him headed in the right direction, doing what he wants to do. I think it's kind of funny he's gonna be sticking around the AK-Rowdy. It's a good place...except for in winter. Ohio really isn't that bad of a place. It's still my home.

Well, I'm moving along with The Fountainhead. I love it, even though I started reading it for all the wrong reasons. Not much else to do these days. I really shouldn't complain. Sitting by the pool and reading isn't a bad way to spend a month at all.

This weekend should be a good one. I'm excited. Charlie and Jenilee invited me to go tubing with some corporate outing. Hopefully they'll want to go out on 6th st tongiht. I'm getting bored, need to get out.
